This one started out pretty funny.  My 10 year-old son and their eldest daughter are classmates.  While I knew that my son had a crush on her, I did not know that within him lies a little bit of sweet young chivalry. When we all met up and I was introduced to her dad, one of the first things he mentions has something to do with the fact that my son (unbeknownst to me, and picked from our yard on the way to the bus stop) brought flowers to school for his daughter! Growing up first in line of 4 girls (and one boy, although not relevant for this part of the story – sorry Tom) I know how dads can be, say…OVERPROTECTIVE of their daughters.  Oh boy, I think to myself, this dad probably already has it out for me – I am in trouble!  I looked over at the poor girl, blushing, and momentarily reminisced about being that age, thinking about all the times my parents embarrassed the heck outta me too.  But I’ll save those stories for another day…

All embarrassments aside (for her AND me!), we quickly worked our way to the photo part of the evening, and momma tells me how with each child they add to the family, the token Christmas card photo becomes more and more difficult.  I think the kiddos did a great job!  They reminded me of when I was young – posing, playing together.  Through their interactions it was obvious how much they adore each other and I know they’re going to grow up to be great friends.  The little guy is so lucky to have such wonderfully loving big sisters.  I know, of course, because I AM one.  *wink, wink*  Right Tom?  {He was 4, I was…20.  Open your mouth and close your eyes, and you will get a big surprise, I told him.  He excitedly obeyed.  And at that moment, I stuck leftover raw onion in his mouth.}  Don’t hate me too much, I promise I’m a way better big sister now!

Check out these cute big sisters and baby brother.  It’s no surprise my son had a crush on their daughter!  What a wonderfully good looking crew.
